Issues with Imperva CDN in China

CDNs perform a variety of functions, the most traditional being accelerating the "delivery of content". However, Imperva CDN - like all other CDNs - faces issues in China.

Compatibility

The primary reason sites don’t ‘work’ in China is due to code-based compatibility issues in the application layer, which CDNs are unable to fully address.

For example -

A website or web page typically comprises of ~100 components called resources. This includes both visible components like images, Facebook-like widgets, Google Maps or ‘behind the scenes’ components like JavaScript. Some of these resources are blocked in China, causing loading times to be affected as a whole.

Other resources load slowly if at all because they are hosted outside of China with a slow server/network.

Speed & Infrastructure

Global CDNs perform differently in China than elsewhere. CDNs with PoPs outside of China tend to perform slower in China than they do globally due to latency in cross-border data transmission.
